Java Jitters - A Study in Perceptual Quality
Hello,
My name is Jonathan Tanner and my Masters Thesis is focusing on
Perceptual Quality of video feeds over the Internet. To properly
conduct the study, I need people who are willing to take a half-hour
of their time to go sit at a computer and watch a series of video
clips while rating what quality the clips were played at.
- Who can take part in this study?
Anyone that wishes to is
invited to participate.
- Do I have to be a Computer Science major or Computer Wizard to
participate?
Computer familiarity is not necessary, but knowledge
of how to use a mouse and a willingness to give your honest opinion is
beneficial.
- Will I be asked complicated questions or brain teasers?
Not
this time, all you will have to do is watch video clips and click a
few buttons. About as much work as watching TV at home and clicking
through various channels.
- Why do I need your help ?
A study of this nature only
becomes valid if enough people participate in it. That is why I need
your help in completing my thesis.
- What will I gain from it?
You will get the chance to learn
how these studies are conducted and what some areas of computer
science are currently studying. It might give you an idea for your
MQP and whether you wish to pursue your masters If you are a member of
CS2136 or CS502 you will also receive class credit for
participating.
- Where will the study be conducted?
In Fuller Labs B24 - The
Movie Lab, any of the machines in there should be equipped for you to
take the study.
- When can I participate?
Below is a list of times that I
have reserved the movie lab so that it will be available for anyone
wishing to take part in the study. At these times I will be available
in the lab incase anyone has difficulties or questions. If however
you can not make any of these times but would still like to
participate, you can show up independently and use the following
information to take part. The software is simple enough that it
should guide you through automatically, and if you have questions the
lab manager should be able to assist you.
- Reserved Lab Hours:
- Tuesday: 10 till 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday: 11 a.m. to Noon.
- Thursday: 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
- Friday: 12:30 to 2 p.m.
To take the experiment:
When the computer asks for your logon Id, enter: guest2
When the computer asks for your password, enter: guest2
The experiment should then start automatically.
