College Influence Maps

This website is made available as part of the study described in the paper
"American
College Influence---A Geographical Perspective","
which provides
details of the
work, including the methodology and data used.
This page provides links to interactive maps showing sphere of influence
based on the five college aspects of enrollment, alumni, research, football and men's
basketball. This website also includes enrollment influence maps for
2-year colleges, which uses the same model parameters as described in
the paper.
Three maps are shown for each type of influence:
- Primary influence: shows school color of the college exerting the primary
influence for each county.
- Primary influence intensity: shows school color intensity of the college exerting the primary
influence for each county.
- Blended influence: shows a weighted blend of school colors for the
three colleges exerting the most influence on each county

considering only these institutions.
