An `AI in Design' View of Design
Problem Description
Assumptions
Is the design problem based on a limiting/simplifying set of assumptions?e.g., no friction, no mass, etc.
Discussion. Some design problem types are extremely difficult to solve if one takes into account all the phenomena which describe them [Addanki et al. 1989]. Introducing carefully selected assumptions that limit these phenomena, or simplify them, allows the system to use efficient problem-solving methods while generating results which are sufficiently close to the real life case.
