Discussion. The choice of development tool is strongly dependent on the types of problems targeted by the system. A problem can be more easily solved by using a suitable representation, which in turn calls for specific development tools. For example, if a system is intended to generate new designs by modifying old designs, a case-based approach would provide much of the necessary support and a case-based reasoning tool would be appropriate.
