Special Issue, November 2005, Vol.19 No.4
Design Computing and Cognition
Edited by:
Andy Dong
This special issue of AIEDAM aims to present state-of-the-art and cutting edge research and developments in design computing and cognition from the First International Conference on Design Computing and Cognition (DCC'04). The themes of design computing and cognition form an integrating framework to design research by recognizing the essential relationship between human cognitive processes in designing, as models of computation, and how models of computation in designing can inspire conceptual realizations of human cognition.
This reciprocal relationship informs the kernel
of research methods and issues that
unite researchers across design disciplines.
Topics in design computing and cognition include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced digital technologies in design research
- Agents in design
- Artificial intelligence in design
- Collaborative design
- Cognitive theories applied to design
- Computational theories applied to design
- Creative design
- Design simulation
- Design synthesis
- Evolutionary approaches in design
- Generative design
- Grammars in design
- Human cognition in design
- Learning from human designers
- Situated computing in design
- Spatial reasoning in design
- Virtual environments in design
- Visual reasoning in design
All DCC'04 contributors including plenary session paper, poster, and workshop authors are invited to submit significantly revised and extended papers, or completely new papers. All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by at least two expert
reviewers, and a selection for publication made on the basis of these
reviews.
Information about the format and style required for
AIEDAM papers can be found at
www.cs.wpi.edu/~aiedam/Instructions/.
However, note that all
submissions for special issues go to the Guest Editor, and not to the
Editor in Chief.
