Structured Documents, Standards and Languages

The Object-oriented philosophy of the 80's and 90's evolved into - or perhaps was specialized to - the Structured Document concept for Electronic Documents.

The standards,

SGML and

ODA are direct results of this viewpoint.

Other standards and languages such as

Page Description Languages were not as noticeably influenced although there have been some better models proposed (and that haven't caught on the way Postscript has).

Script Languages are used by some multimedia packages (as well as by operating systems)

Graphics and multimedia discussions are discussed in Module 5, Multimedia Systems.
