State Per-Capita Contribution of Players to the NHL as a Measure of
Sport Interest
A state is shown as "As Expected" if the percentage of players it
contributes to the league is the same as the percentage of population
it contributes to the U.S. A state showing as "Twice Expected" contributes
twice as many players to the league as would be expected based upon its
population relative to the whole of the U.S.
A state showing as "Half of Expected" contributes
half as many players to the league as would be expected based upon its
population relative to the whole of the U.S.
Minnesota has the highest per-capita state contribution of players.
Contributions for Canadian provinces are not shown, but are all at the top
of the scale with Saskatchewan having the highest per-capita provincial
contribution of players.
