Dr. Aparna Varde has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts. She is a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Computing (SoC) at Montclair State University (MSU) in Montclair, New Jersey. She is also an Associate Director of the Clean Energy and Sustainability Analytics Center (CESAC), Doctoral Faculty Member in their Environmental Science and Management PhD Program, and Faculty Member in the interdisciplinary MS in Computational Linguistics program at Montclair. She has served as the Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research in SoC at MSU. Her experience includes being a Visiting Researcher at Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPII) in Saarbruecken, Germany; and a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Math and Computer Science at Virginia State University, USA. Aparna obtained her M.S. in Computer Science at WPI and her B.E. in Computer Engineering from the University of Bombay, India. Her interests span Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning and Database Systems with particular emphasis on multidisciplinary research including Environmental Computing. Aparna's research has been supported by grants from organizations such as PSEG, NSF, NOAA, Roche and Merck. Her honors include 9 best paper awards at IEEE conferences and other venues. Her professional activites include serving as a panelist for NSF, founder and co-chair of ACM CIKM's Ph.D.workshops, reviewer for premier journals, e.g. IEEE's TKDE and ACM's TKDD and PC member at leading conferences, e.g. IEEE's IDCM and ACM's CIKM, and session chair at pinnacle venues such as ACM SIGMOD and WWW. She has more than 150 publications including a book chapter, 5 edited volumes and several papers in reputed journals and conferences by IEEE, ACM, AAAI etc. Aparna has been awarded Associate Membership of Sigma Xi for excellence in multidisiplinary work. She is classified as an outstanding researcher by the USCIS for permanent residency. As hobbies she enjoys travel, Yoga, aerobics, painting, literature, music and other cultural events.
