---------------------------------------------------------------------- ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH SEMINAR Department of Computer Science Worcester Polytechnic Institute SPEAKER: Prof. David C. Brown, WPI CS Dept. TITLE: Presentation of paper: "Automated Capture of Rationale for the Detailed Design Process" K. L. Myers, N. B. Zumel & P. Garcia Proc. AAAI-99, pp. 876-883. (***) DATE: Thursday, October 7, 1999. TIME: 11 am ROOM: FL246, Beckett Conference Room. ABSTRACT: The normal product of designing is a design description (i.e., a "Design"). This provides information about `what' was decided in response to Requirements, but not `why'. The reasons for the design decisions, when collected together, are known as a Design Rationale. This recent paper, written by researchers from SRI International, describes a system that monitors the users actions when using a Computer Aided Design tool, and infers Design Rationale from those observations. Previous approaches to rationale acquisition have either been disruptive, asking the user for rationale at every step, or have required all rationale to be prestored. -------- *** Copies of the paper will be available in the AIRG mailbox in the CS office before the end of the week. Copies can be send via campus mail on request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone is welcome to attend!
