This course (CS576/EE536 - Local Area Networks) was originally
intended as the second course in a group of graduate courses
introduced under the CCN initiative. The introductory course, CS513,
is a prerequisite for this course in the sense that it introduces
the ISO-OSI Reference Model for computer network architectures.

Course Objectives
- to do an in-depth analysis of classic local area
networks
- to consider the newest LAN technologies
- to emphasize performance aspects of LAN choices
- to foster an understanding of internet issues,
particularly with respect to bridges, routers and switches
- to improve student skills at gathering information on LANs from
the literature and from the World Wide Web (WWW)
