Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) is one of the leaders in the
development of Electronic Publishing Systems as well as Programming Environment
Systems.
The Xerox Alto personal computer workstation was developed in the late 70's
and included a new pointing device called a mouse . This system
influenced later sytems such as Bravo
Bravo was developed at Xerox Parc by Bruce Lampson and included an integrated
editor formatter.
Later systems included Markup, Draw, and Star.
To further the notion that programming language development and publishing
systems developed together is that Xerox Park developed SmallTalk.
