by Matt Worzala and Seamus Sullivan

Dive Deep is a dungeon crawler style game, where the player traverses rooms, discovering empty rooms and rooms with enemies, where they have to fight the enemies to progress forward into the next room and increase their score. There are two types of enemies, quick and heavy, each of which has a certain amount of health. The player runs through rooms and can shoot out little bullets that deal 1 damage. When the player finds the trophy, they win the game, with whatever their score may be depending on how many enemies they defeated. If their health bar hits 0, they lose the game. Link to video:

Too Many Bullets

icon

by Brad Cosma and Benjamin Klaiman

The player controls their ship in a two-dimensional space, with the ability to move in all eight directions, but constrained to the vertically oriented level’s fixed dimensions. Enemies and boss characters will appear above the player. The player can slow their motion for fine movement, which also narrows their attack spread. Enemies also have multiple attack patterns, which vary based on enemy type. The screen can become filled with hostile projectiles and dodging these is the main challenge. The player can earn points by narrowly missing enemy attacks or killing enemies, and features “nukes” similar to Saucer Shoot.

Jurassic Smash

by Nadiyah Garris and Olivia Bell

“Jurassic Smash” is a twist on the classic Atari Breakout format. The game screen generates a wall of dinosaurs, for the player to destroy. These dinosaurs can be destroyed by hitting them with an asteroid, which bounces around the screen and off of the paddle that the player has control of. Players should use their paddle to hit the asteroid without allowing it to go off the bottom of the screen, destroying as many dinos as they can before they lose control of the asteroid. Over time the ball changes speed based on the number of points, with 3 levels for the player to advance through. Points can be earned by destroying dinosaurs or by lasting longer in the game.

The main technical features of Garden of Age are the usage of buttons. Each selection is then placed in a queue of actions to take, which are executed when the player ends their selection turn. There is a Character base class that is used to contain general information about both the player’s Character and the Enemy Characters. For example, the current health of the Character is housed in the Character class and is adjusted based on the outcome of the battle. From there, child classes for each type of Character store more specific information, such as custom move sets, enemy decision trees, and sprites. The final boss of the game (Hallowed Regent) is the most difficult to defeat, but the player receives a new ability from the previous battle (against Raile the Magic Warrior) that adds a twist to the story and helps the player finish the game.
