Planet Shooty

icon

by Hao Chen and Shane Stevens

In this game, the main purpose is to protect a planet (located in the center of the game world) from incoming waves of asteroids. The longer you survive and more asteroids you kill the more points you get.

How do you survive? You must buy defenses such as block, heavy block, and bombs to place around the planet. These defenses will take a certain number of hits from the incoming asteroids before they break and need to be replaced.

The player can also fire bullets at the asteroids, but this weapon is slow in not effective enough to ensure the survival of the planet. On harder waves, a very large asteroid, nicked named “Big Lad” by the locals, will hurtle toward the planet causing massive damage to the defenses. The player must prepare carefully.

ASCII Breaker

icon

by Aaron Waldman and Will White

There is a paddle at the bottom of the screen that the player can move left and right. There are two rows of bricks at the top of the screen. There is a ball that starts at the center of the screen and then moves in a random direction, and it bounces off of the player’s paddle and destroys the bricks. The player can choose what direction the ball bounces in: if you hit the ball with the left edge of the paddle, the ball will bounce towards the right, and vice-versa. If you destroy all bricks on screen, your ball gets faster, and a new wave of bricks appears. Additionally, the bricks get more and more durable with each wave - they will randomly start turning red and blue, which means they take 2 or 3 hits to destroy, respectively. If you miss the ball with your paddle, you lose a life and your ball slows back down. If you lose all three lives, it’s game over. The more bricks you break, the higher your score gets.
