About

The Only Fisherman in Europa is a game written using Terathon Software's C4 Engine codebase for WPI's IMGD 3000 - Technical Game Development I.  It's a simple action/adventure game in which the player pilots an Interplanetary Submarine through the murky depths of Europa's frozen seas, searching for five elusive varieties of fish to catch with traps and the Submarine's ever-trusty net.  Caught fish can be sold at conveniently located Capture Stations for money, which can in turn be used to buy upgrades for the submarine.  Most of the fish don't particularly want to end up on somebody's dinner plate, though, and it'll take a bit of cunning to track them all down - while avoiding being squashed, chomped, rammed, and stung into oblivion by the offensively-equipped denizens of the deep.

Europa is a team effort from Chris Drouin and Joshua Doyle, with Chris mainly providing the artsy bits, physics implementation, and UI, and Josh mainly providing the controls and the creature scripting/AI.

Acknowledgements and Thanks:

Eric Lengyel, for patience and support on the Terathon Software forums (and writing the C4 Engine which made this project possible)

Archangel of modarchive.org, for the "Beyond Atlantis" track used as background music for the game.

The Blender foundation, for providing the temperamental-but-nonetheless-essential Blender 3D modeling software we used to make our fish, submarine, and more.

Planetside Software, for their Terragen software, which helped in generating the heightmap for our world (and also rendered the skybox bounding the world).

The C07 IMGD 3000 class, for all the shared tips and inspiration that helped get us through this project.
