Student Opinions about CS 3041

Student Comments Response
It was interesting. I liked everything. The teaching was good. From a freshman with good taste!
Great course.
The most retarded class I have ever had the displeasure to take. Not a CS major. We can't please everyone.
Read the book, start early. I said that!
The course should be based on students developing several different interfaces for the code, with each critiqued. This would involve a huge amount of critiquing, and would also leave out several of the other types of HCI activities that we want to include in this class. This guy wanted a programming course. This isn't.
Course moved way too slow. This was due to the extensive in-class discussions we usually have.
I do wish he hadnt been so reliant on the book for gathering information. Due to the discussions I present less of the information in the book during the lectures. Hence I expect the class to read the book to keep pace with the discussions. If I lecture on all the material from the book then I get told that the book is useless and the classes are boring.
The class was fun, and I enjoyed going to class.
The project descriptions were vague and we were graded on whether or not we did everything in the project description. Vague requirements are "real". So is doing everything one's asked. Try telling a manager in industry that you only did part of the work!
After watching the Microsoft video that basically stated everything covered this term in less than an hour I cant help but feel that drawing out the material for 7 weeks is overkill. There's more in the course than the video. The video covers the key points only. Much of the course is concerned with skills and attitudes. The video would have a very different impact on the class at the start of the term. Still, if you agree with this opinion, buy the video by all means: it's good.
Good tests and homework assignments. This guy deserves an A!
Brown did an excellent job of teaching the material and kept the class interested and excited.
It was boring.
This course seemed to be about creating useless apps for morons. A techno-macho person on whom this course made no impact. And that's a shame.
VB. *Please* spare us: anything would have been better. Better in what sense? It's used as it has high applicability, has a very quick learning curve, and can be used to develop high-quality prototypes quickly. i.e., while it may not be very "cool" it's ideal for our needs.
Fitt's Law kicks ass. Damn right!
