An `AI in Design' View of Design
Methodology
CoverageDoes the design method create a design from a strictly functional point of view, or does it consider other aspects?
e.g., manufacturability, maintainability, disposal, etc.
Discussion. Most design systems aim primarily at providing the functionality of the object, as required by the specifications. However, the life-cycle of the product also includes, besides its intended use, a manufacturing phase, maintainability aspects and disposal requirements. These phases generate constraints as important as those resulting from functional specifications. Neglecting these additional constraints may lead to functionally satisfactory artifacts that have significant problems and costs during their creation, repair or disposal.
