Simulation

Does the system use any simulation techniques as part of the design process?

Discussion. Generally, simulation represents a look-ahead technique. Simulation offers the possibility to explore the consequences of design decisions in the ``real world''. Redesign methods can then use the feedback resulting from the simulation. Simulation may be precise or approximate (e.g., qualitative). Though expensive in terms of resources, simulation provides information about behavior which cannot be predicted using the design system's knowledge [Kant 1985].
