ABSTRACT

The focus of AI in Design studies is often on how and when domain knowledge is used, rather than what it is. There is a strong need for material that can be used to demonstrate and teach this distinction. Consequently, the goals of this paper are to introduce a selection from the AI in Design literature; to present a perspective of design based on that literature; and to provide a set of questions that can be used for pedagogical purposes to analyse and categorize computational research into design. This paper is built around a set of questions. The questions are intended to be used to enable any piece of AI in Design research to be clearly understood.
