CS 561 Spring 2007.
CS561 "HOMEWORK" #5
Assigned: Thursday, Mar 1, 2007
Due: Thursday, Mar 8, 2007
To do:
-
Read the assigned readings on
basics in streaming by next week.
I have handed out copies in class, and they are also linked
onto our webpage.
-
Prepare one written report on the topic of "streaming data"
to be turned in in the next class meeting.
The goal is to tease out the main points from
the assigned readings.
-
Topics to consider in your critique include:
-
Explain what streaming data is, and list
requirements of typical stream applications
on query processing of such data.
-
Discuss if such streaming data processing could be accomplished
directly inside a state-of-the-art DBMS server,
assuming no major adjustments would be made on that server.
would it work ? what would be the pitfalls?
-
If we were to add this streaming data service into a standard DBMS,
suggest what changes within the architecture, services, etc.
would need to be made to be able to try and accomplish this?
would such changes likely be sufficient?
-
lastly, if you were to build a stream server from scratch,
then what techniques, lessons learned, services, modules, etc.,
could we borrow from state-of-the-art DBMS engines?
