NOTECARD GUIDELINES
A-Term 1999
You must prepare a "notecard" for each major
reading assignment (this does
not include those items on the reading list that are preceeded by a *).
Each notecard must include:
- Your name.
- Title, author, and source of the reading.
-
Short summary of the article/main points.
- Observations/reactions: These points should not be a
factual summary of the
article's contents, but reflect on the following:
- opinions on any of the ideas in the reading
- ideas in the reading that bring to mind connections to
other things you've read or thought about
- statements or ideas that are interesting or present a
new slant on a topic
- statements or ideas that strike you as controversial and
your reaction to the author's view (pro or con)
- thoughts about how suggestions or approaches in the reading
could be useful to you in your future professional life
- holes in the discussion or issues that you feel
should have been raised about a topic which were not addressed
- questions you may have
- etc.
Each notecard should be approximately one double-spaced
typewritten page, or equivalent (250 words).
Submit each notecard by email to the TA (
alfadog@cs.wpi.edu
),
in ASCII text format.
