How to Get/Select/Opt-Out of Homework Partners

Each of you will be in one of three homework partner situations: working alone, working with a partner who you identified, and working with a partner who the staff helped you find. This page explains what each situation needs to do in order to submit your work properly.

Once the partners are configured, we will open the system to accept submissions. This means that assignments will be open for submissions starting at 7:30 on Sunday evenings.

What If We Forget to Configure Partners by the Deadline?

Once we open an assignment for submissions, you cannot configure your partner on your own. The staff have to adjust it manually. Whether we would have time for that depends on how busy we are with office hours, appointments, email, and helping students who are trying to finish the assignment. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to configure you manually before the deadline. So if you don't get your partner request in, you should work independently that week.

We realize this may seem harsh. Unfortunately, with a large class, we have to balance our time between helping everyone and handling missed deadlines. The former is more important to us.

Do We Have to do this Every Week?

The pairings stay in effect from week to week by default, unless you explicitly break them. You are only allowed to partner with the same person on three assignments, so you will have to change your partner at some point (see the next section for how to do this). We leave the choice of when to change partners up to you, as long as you respect the three-times-max rule.

How Do We Change Partners?

InstructAssist also offers a "break partners" option. When you want to change your partner for a subsequent week, break the pairing (which sends a confirmation mail to your old partner) then request a new one.
