CS 1101 C-term 12
Homework 0 - Choose a Homework Partner
Due: 5pm, Friday, January 13
Research has shown that student learning is improved when students do homework
assignments in pairs. In this course you are required
to work with a
homework partner.
You may choose the person you want to work with, or we will assign you a
partner at random. You will keep the
same partner throughout the course.
Working with a partner does not necessarily mean a decrease in the time you
will spend on your homework; indeed, it may increase the number of hours
you spend on your assignments. But with this increased time comes better understanding (and better exam grades). There are two recommended ways to work with a
homework partner:
- Schedule a time to meet in person and work through all of the
homework problems together (we'll watch a short video in class that talks about
this approach)
-
Both members of the team work out the homework problems independently, then
meet in person to compare and discuss both partners' solutions and decide which solutions to
submit for credit
It is not advisable to split up the homework problems
between partners, because each partner will be responsible for learning
all the homework material for the exams.
Both partners will receive the same
grade on their homework assignments.
