Java for Students, 2nd edition, by Douglas Bell and Mike Parr. Prentice-Hall, 1998.

Do not use the 1st edition -- the 1st edition only works under Java 1.0! -- the 2nd is Java 1.1 and 1.2 compliant.

Available at the WPI Bookstore and amazon.com (2nd edition).

The authors support a website for the text.

Optional Reference Book

This book is highly recommended for those intending to do serious Java Programming.

The Java Programming Language, 3rd edition, by Ken Arnold, James Gosling, and David Holmes. Addison-Wesley, 2000.
