How to Succeed in CS 1006
Students' Advice
The following is a list of all responses to the question
"What strategy would you advise a friend to use to benefit from this course?"
from the CS 100x (experimental version of CS 1006)
A 98 Student Course Evaluations.
- Do the homework, it's helpful and actually pretty fun.
- Use the notes on the web; very useful tool for assignments.
- Practice a lot of programming in your own time to really learn
java.
- Read the book!
- Don't get laid off from your full-time job in the middle of the
term.
Don't drink a "kick in the pants" from the Bean Counter before a test.
Start working on your homework early.
- Know JAVA already!
- Do homework early.
- Read the material in the book and most importantly do the
homework.
Go to all classes and labs.

- The book and labs are very helpful.
- Work hard. Don't get discouraged. Keep an open mind and get
help.

Ask questions if you have a problem -- the prof and TA are very
willing to help.
- Make sure you know how to program when you come into the course
and keep up with the reading.
- Don't miss classes and spend a lot of time on homework.
- Have a lot of programming background!
