Welcome

Are you an undergraduate computer science major in your senior year thinking about graduate school? If so, this event will likely be of interest to you! We would like to invite you to participate in an open house for the graduate program in Computer Science at WPI. At WPI, you will find a thriving research community and a small faculty/student ratio. Our dedicated Faculty performs world-class research in Artificial Intelligence, Performance Evaluation, Database Systems Management, Human Interaction in Virtual Environments, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Visualization, and Software Engineering.

WPI is located in Worcester, Massachusetts on a traditional, New England campus in an area that is home to 13 colleges (and over 35,000 college students). Graduate Orientation 2006Centrally located in New England, WPI is just one hour's drive from Boston, Hartford CT, Providence RI, and Springfield. Worcester is an exciting place to be, with several museums, music and theater performance centers, an arena for concerts and sporting events, and lots of restaurants, entertainment venues and shopping centers. Commuter rail service offers students easy access to Boston.

Events

We have planned a day of activities for Friday November 9th to show you the research community and introduce you to our Faculty. We expect the introductory session on graduate school will be especially informative. You will learn about our department through a series of short 20-30 minute "spotlight" presentations by both Faculty and graduate students. There will also be time to visit our many research labs for demonstrations so you can experience first-hand the life of a CS graduate student. You will get personal "up close" views of our Faculty and graduate students. There will be many opportunities, too, for informal chats and discussions throughout the day.

Research Groups

WPI Computer Science research is nurtured by its research groups. Several research groups operate their own laboratories with gifts, grants or contracts from outside agencies. The final schedule of research group presentations will be emailed to registered students one week prior to the event.
