Many of the first systems built by AI in Design researchers were
"routine" design systems: mostly "parametric design".  This paper
examines what that means, providing a theoretical foundation that
allows us to know how to recognize and classify systems that act in
this way.

Knowing what "task" a design system is supposed to achieve allows the
right techniques to be used.
