The most significant contribution of the Kritik systems is to use
cases expressed in a functional representation, indexed by function;
but there are several other novel aspects.  Case retrieval produces
likely solutions to the problem, ordered by ease of adaptation. The
system knows about types of differences (between what was retrieved
and what function is needed) and has transformations that can be
applied to reduce them.  Qualitative simulation allows evaluation of
the result.
