RATIONALE M. F. Orelup, J. R. Dixon, P. R. Cohen & M. K. Simmons, "Dominic II: Meta-Level Control in Iterative Redesign". Proc. 7th Nat. Conf. on AI (AAAI-88), St. Paul, MN, August 1988. Dominic is one of the first mechanical engineering parametric design systems based on AI techniques: in this case a form of hill-climbing search. It introduces the concept of dependencies, and points out the weaknesses of hill-climbing. It also raises the question of evaluation of AI in D systems.
