RATIONALE "Navinchandra & Sycara, CADET" K. P. Sycara & D. Navinchandra, Retrieval Strategies in a Case-Based Design System. In: Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Design, Vol. 2, (Eds) C. Tong & D. Sriram, Academic Press, 1992, pp. 145-163. The CADET system is notable because of the use of "influences" in its case representation of devices and parts of devices. Small chains of influences can be used as parts of larger cases, ways to index larger cases, or as ways to hypothesize the connection between an input parameter and an output. The authors also propose an abstraction hierarchy with general influences such as "Signal influences Distance" all the way down to specific influences (e.g., electrical or mechanical signals).
