New CS Faculty for 2010
The Computer Science Department is very pleased to announce
three new faculty members for 2010.
Sonia Chernova has been appointed to a position in the CS department &
the Robotics Engineering program. She was hired last year but has
been at MIT holding a post-doctoral associate appointment working with
Cynthia Brazeal. Her research focuses on interactive learning
techniques that enable robots to learn from human teachers. Currently
she is working on the development of social robots that leverage
observations of human behavior to learn how to collaborate with people
in a natural and effective way.
Mohamed Eltabakh been appointed to a position in the CS department.
His interests are database systems, scientific data management,
annotation and provenance management, indexing techniques, large scale
databases, query optimization, and data mining. He has a one year
post-doctoral appointment at IBM-Almaden and will actually be on campus
starting Fall 2011.
Eduardo Torres-Jara has been appointed to a position in the CS
department & the Robotics Engineering program. He comes to us from a
postdoctoral associate position working for Prof. Daniela Rus at MIT
CSAIL and Prof. Rob Wood at the Microrobotics lab at Harvard. His
research interests include Flexible Actuators and Sensitive
Manipulation.
